Steve:
I created an account on this site and looked around a bit yesterday. Communities? Check. Groups? Check. Mobile access? Double check. Ease of use? That’s where I got tripped up.
You’re able to find workouts that other users have created. They have a title, some description or instructions, and then they’re each set up to track in a specific way (time, distance, etc.). I searched for ‘elliptical’ and got an exercise that had “30 minutes” in the title and would only let me track distance. I’ve done a lot of time on that thing and I don’t remember it ever giving me the distance. I’ll have to check next time, but what I would have preferred was time tracking.
No problem, it lets you create workouts. Although when you go in to create a new entry there’s a banner that comes up that warns of not creating duplicate entries. At this point I’m stuck with either ignoring the message or creating yet another duplicate.
I’d give this site 3 out of 5 stars.
Jason:
I was able to create an account quite easily, lots of AJAX to be had on this site. At the time of writing there is 4000+ subscribers on the site many of which are participating in their forums. A website like this requires lots of forum participation and it seems that the majority of the users are participating. The interface of the site is easy on the eyes but doesnt have that new fangled Web 2.0 look to it. This isn’t bad but it does stand out a bit from the crowd. Another thing about the forums is that they allow for all sorts of multimedia to get your point across. Pictures, youtube videos and such really added to the experience.
I too had the same problem as my co-host, creating a new workout or rather being pushed to use an already created workout was a bit odd. Other websites allow you to create workouts without this warning. I’m not sure what the devs were thinking about on this one.
The ability to input constantly changing stats (weight, workouts) over their mobile site work splendidly. I think more sites should go about it this way. I’d like to see a way to display this data on my own website like some other places do. They really did a good job of getting data into the site but I think they need to allow you to use that collected data elsewhere.
I give this site 4 out of 5 stars.

So just about everyone hates brussel sprouts, right? Not so much eh. Well, here’s how I cook them to make them taste not only edible, but pretty darn good. It’s a two stage event, so get your pot of boiling water ready!
First off, steam or boil the brussel sprouts until cooked pretty much all the way through. Time depends on the size of the sprouts. I prefer to steam, but do what you gotta do.
While the veggies are steaming, chop up some garlic, as much as you want. I love garlic, so I go crazy. No vampires here baby.
Now, when you are done with the sprouts, remove them and slice them in half lengthwise. Toss them in a well oiled pan and start sauting them. Toss in the garlic and when things start to get crunchy around the edges you are done. Season to taste and you are good to go. It doesn’t take long in the skillet, just long enough to start to brown the edges and bring out the flavor of the garlic.
I guarantee this is better than how you’re used to having brussel sprouts!
Enjoy and be healthy.

Steve’s sound quality has kind of gone to hell on this podcast (is that a tunnel?). Jason and Steve talk about hitting the gym at various times, circuit training, LL Cool J’s Platinum Workout, learning to cook, best & worst cereals, and some iPod magic.

Well folks we finally made it to episode 20 and both Steve and I have seen some decent progress in our tasks to lose weight and live a heathier lifestyle. I’d like to take this time to introduce to you two websites that well help you keep track of your food intake and all of the working out you have been doing. It’s quite common for people to set a goal (er, resolution) to lose weight during the new year and we at GeekFit wanted to point you in the right direction.
Both websites do about the same thing, Steve and Jason started out using SparkPeople and later transitioned to Traineo. Once you join one of these sites please join the GeekFit group by following one of these two links:

I grabbed this from “The Universe of Yaniv - Yaniverse“, I haven’t tried it yet but I’ll be sure to talk about it on Episode 18.
Below is their text:
We all work out, we all need re-hydration, we all buy Gatorade… wait, stop. EnerT, this simple do it yourself tea-based energy drink, may be a better (and cheaper) option.
An energy drink needs sugar (of some form), electrolytes (mostly sodium and potassium) to accelerate absorption, and may contain other ingredients. I opted for tea as caffeine has a beneficial workout benefit, and tea provides a low-level caffeine, striking my personally preferred balanced between ‘waking’ and ‘wired’. Any level of sugars under 8% is acceptable, but I find Gatorade to be overly caloric for those of us trying to balance increased workout performance with weight loss/maintenance.
EnerT Ingredients (32 oz or about 1 liter):
2 Tea Bags
6 level teaspoon sugar (24 grams)
A pinch of salt (0.5 grams)
2 oz lemon juice (about 55 grams)
30 oz boiling waterContains:
100 calories
500 mg Sodium
60mg of Potassium (from the lemon juice)
Caffeine varies, est 100mg-200mg caffeine (depending on the tea used and infusion duration)Estimated Cost:
Lemon juice: $0.10
2 Tea Bags: $0.06
Sugar, Salt, water, etc: negligibleCompare to 32 oz Gatorade:
200 calories
440mg Sodium
120mg Potassium
No caffeine
Cost: $1.29

Ok, I know what you are all thinking….leeks….ewww! Well, I’m here to tell you I felt the same way until my father-in-law made some of this delicious soup. This recipe comes mostly from his kitchen but since he’s no longer with us, my mother-in-law is the judge and she says he’d like it.
Here’s to you Roger!
Celery is optional in this recipe but I’m including it to make this healthy.
Saute the celery with butter in a saucepan for about two minutes, then add the leeks. Keep those greens moving until the leeks are limp so it doesn’t burn.
Toss the leeks, celery and potatoes into a stockpot and add water till everything covered. It’s about 3 cups, but I cook like I’m feeding an army, so feel free to pare down the amounts as needed. For some reason, soup multiplies when it’s cooked and you’ll end up with more than you’d think.
Bring to a boil then simmer for about 20-25 minutes, until the potatoes are cooked through and soft. Add the cream. Now, here’s the fun part. When cooked, you need to puree everything down as best you can. I started by using a potato masher and just worked the soup until it was as pulverized as I could get it. My wife mentioned that we had a hand mixer and I’ve been using that ever since. If you’ve got one, great. If not, the soup will still win awards. Just get it as creamy as you can. You can use a food processor, but you really don’t have to and it’s an extra step of cleaning that I think is over kill.
30 minutes from start to finish and you are a hero! Add salt and pepper to taste, but again, be careful. Leeks have a bit of a salty taste themselves, and if you use chicken stock it could get too salty. Stay away from the chicken buillion cubes. Those are just nasty.
Here’s my guess on the nutritional info, based on other recipes.
Under 200 calories per serving, about 38 from fat.
This is SO much better than the Whopper combo you were gonna have! Enjoy.
